Music is a language that speaks to us all. It brings people together from other sides of the world, it can be shared by people from total opposite walks of life, and it can remind us that we’re not the only people who have felt this way.
But what does it mean to you?
For me as a songwriter, its a healing tool – a way to talk about my emotions with others, work through my experiences, and its cheaper than a therapist! 😂
But as a singer, music takes on a different meaning. It’s an energy that flows through my body and transforms me. I feel powerful because I know I will be heard. I feel alive because of the adrenaline of being truly present in a moment and making split decisions of what I’ll do next. It’s the one time I can feel my soul pulsing through my veins.
I often cry when I sing to myself. And no, it’s not because I think I’m so wonderful! It’s because of the power of music to make me truly feel something, how certain lyrics force a memory to the surface, or how singing a certain melody can cause you to physically experience an emotion.
I sometimes wonder whether this is just me, or do other people have this reaction?
So I want to know, how do you experience music? Whether as an audience member, singing along to the radio, listening to vinyls at home, writing music or even performing yourself… I’d love to know what it means to you. Send me a message any time.
